Oh my gosh- yum! So I splurged and bought organic powdered sugar. Call me crazy, but I like supporting companies who support the natural way. Organic is worth the extra cost. I hunt, fish, trap, gather, and grow as much as I can. But we can't grow sugar cane in Alaska- so I needed to find an alternative. Unfortunately sugar is one thing I really cannot live without. If I could buy direct from a small farmer I would- but unfortunately I don't know one. So instead I've opted for Florida Crystals.At first I just bought the whole sugar. It was so yummy- I had to try other kinds of sugar. So I recently bought this set of powdered sugar and some brown sugar. So glad I did! This powdered sugar was packaged really well. They come in manageably sized plastic resealable bags. I'd honestly rather see them packaged in the paper bags many other non-organic brands package in, as the paper bags are much more biodegradable. But it's hard to deny that the convenience of a resealable bag is a handy thing to have around.I don't make a versatile amount of things with powdered sugar. I mainly use it for two things. First: cake frosting. With cake frosting you NEED fine sugar. The finest dustiest powdered sugar you can get. Clumps just won't work. This powdered sugar is so so smoothe. And so so WHITE. You an color your frosting virtually any color you'd like, because the white base is... well, white!The second thing I make is puppy chow (known as muddy buddies in some parts). This delicious chocolate peanut-buttery treat deserves only the best powdered sugar one can find. And Florida Crystals makes my snack so yummy! It perfectly coats all of the yummy crunchy morsels that make up my favorite dessert.How does this sugar compare to non-organic sugars? I honestly couldn't tell you. They taste the same to me. But the fact they come from a pesticide-free farm, have no weird additives or preservatives, makes them worth the cost to me. I'm obviously not the biggest health nut (hence my love of frosting and puppy chow), but I do like to be cautious of what I put into my body. And it's good to know this brand is giving me exactly what I paid for. Powdered sugar- and nothing else.
